11 Things to Know about the Ball Python

1. Ball Python is not that big

Adult ball pythons measure between 130cm – 180cm, if in the wild the size of an adult ball python is generally only around 140cm, it is very rare to find a ball python in the wild that has a size larger than 140cm. as a human pet the ball pyhon grows about 35cm per year in the first three years, after 3 years growth declines or even stops.

2. Ball Pythons have a relatively long lifespan

The lifespan of a ballpyhon is relatively long, they can live for about 20 years but if the bears are cared for properly they can live up to 30 years, some have claimed that they have a ballpython that is 35 years old, whether it's true or not, let's prove it for ourselves by taking care of the ballpythons we collect as good as possible. so be prepared to be accompanied by a ball python for a long time!

3. Cage for Ball python is not complicated

The cage for the ball python is not too complicated, the container box with ventilation holes is comfortable enough for the ball python, but it has to be adjusted between the size of the ball python and the volume of the container! The volume of 40 Gallons (97x46x40cm) is the ideal size for an adult Ballpython for a baby size, half the size of an adult BallPython container is ideal. But don't forget to check the ballpython cage cover because the aballpython is a snake that is good at running away.

4. Provide a Hiding Box (a place to hide)

Always provide a Hiding Box for the Ballpython, especially if the Ballpython is still small, this is so that the Ballpython feels safe and protected so that the Ballpython is not easily stressed, and if the ball python is not stressed, the appetite will remain smooth so that indirectly Hiding box helps in maintaining appetite eat Ballpython

5. Substrate

Used newspapers are already a good substrate for Ballpython, this is because newspapers are very practical and easy to see clean and whether or not the newspaper we use as a substrate. when the Ballpython is an adult, ideally you can use cypress bark because it is very absorbent to liquids and can also maintain the humidity of the Ballpython cage. Substrates to avoid for ball pythons: cedar (because the sap contains poison), pine and aspen (because they can irritate the Ballpython's breath)

6. Pay attention to the temperature of the cage

The ideal temperature for a Ballpython cage is

Daytime 27-32 degrees Celsius

22-28 degrees celsius at night

There is nothing wrong with providing a thermometer in the ball python cage because it will make it very easy for us to monitor the temperature of the ball python cage.

7. Lighting

Like most other reptiles, the Ballpyhon also needs UVB light, to meet the need for UVB rays we can provide UVB Bulbs..but we can also dry the Ballpyhon between 7-11 am 15 minutes is considered long enough to dry the Ballpython, the sun is the source of UVB rays the best, but don't forget to watch while the Ballpython is drying, because if it's too long, the Ballpyhon will be knocked out when dried when the ballpython looks restless, immediately put it in the shade.

8. Ball Python Cage Humidity

Ballpython cages require 50-65% humidity, buy a Hygrometer if you want to easily monitor the humidity of Ballpython cages! It can also be tricked by providing a relatively large drinking vessel to maintain the humidity of the cage

9. Ball Python Dining Menu

The ball python eating menu is white rats (can be big or small) adjusting the size of the Ballpython that will be fed, if it can be taught to eat mice that have just died... this is to avoid resistance from the rats that will be eaten which may injure the ballpyhon.

10. Meal Schedule

Management of meal times, try to feed at the same time intervals, for example once a week, every 3 days, or every 5 days, this is so that the ballpython's appetite is maintained

Management of food portions, in providing food portions for the ballpython, 75% of its maximum ability to eat is attempted, for example: a ballpython which based on its size is able to eat 4 small snails, it is enough to feed 3 small snails, this is also to keep the ballpython's appetite so that we can avoid what is called a hunger strike!

11. Water

Clean water must always be available in the cage, because apart from being drinking water, water is also a place to soak the ball python when the temperature is high and also to maintain the humidity of the cage, so if you can provide enough water containers for the ball python to bathe in. Try to replace the water in the ball python cage every day with new ones.
